Abstract

923,960. Road-sweeping machines. ASBRINK CO. A.B. March 23, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10765/61. Class 107. In a pneumatic cleaning device, a brush rotatable about a vertical axis is carried by an arm which is pivotable about a mounting on the device to move the brush in a horizontal path from one side of the device to the other ahead of a suction nozzle. As shown a brush 51, rotated by an hydraulic motor 55, is carried by an arm comprising links 52, 53 hinged to a shaft 56 rotatable in a mounting on a frame 10 of the device. The link 53, is adjustable in length to allow the axis of rotation of the brush to be inclined to the vertical. A roller (not shown) carried by the link 52 runs in an arcuate track 59 which has a recess 60 at each end and is rigidly secured to the mounting referred to above. The brush is swung from one side of the device to the other by hydraulic cylinders 61 or an hydraulic motor (not shown) and is at a working height when the roller is located in either recess 60, i.e. at an end of its path of travel. Resilient screens 64a, 64b are mounted on arms 65, 66 secured to the refuse receptacle 34 and are urged upwardly by springs (not shown) also secured to the receptacle 34. Pins 68 on the arms 65 are located in slots at each end of a rod 70 which is linked to an arm 74 in such a way that pivoting of the arm to one side about a vertical pin secured to the receptacle 34 causes the rod 70 to pull down the screen on the other side against the action of its spring. The arm 74 also has pin and slot connection with an arm (not shown) which is mounted on the shaft 56 carrying the brush arm 52, 53, the arrangement being such that when the brush is moved to one side the screen on the other side is lowered. Water is supplied from a tank (not shown) to spray nozzles 83a, 83b, Fig. 9, through a two-way cock 84. The operating lever 84<SP>1</SP> of the cock is also connected to the shaft 56 so that when the brush is in the intermediate position the cock is shut, movement to the right or left, as seen in Fig. 9, opens the conduit leading to nozzles 83a or 83b respectively. Means for reversing the direction of rotation of the motor 55 may be connected to the means for swinging the brush. The suction apparatus comprises a suction and blast nozzle 31 adjustable longitudinally of the device and vertically, and a fan 24 driven by a motor 15. Dirt-laden air is drawn into cyclone separators 33, 34, a portion of the air then being passed to a further separator and filter 36, 37 and a portion to the fan 24. The receptacle 34 may be raised for emptying about a shaft 39 by hydraulic cylinders 43 and a door 34<SP>11</SP> is lockable in closed position by a pawl 45 moved by further hydraulic cylinders 47 into and out of engagement with an abutment 46. An oil pump (not shown), supplying hydraulic fluid to the cylinders 43, 47 and also the cylinders 61 and motor 55 is driven by the motor 15 which also provides power for propelling the device and driving the water pump 86. Specifications 732,972, 771,230, 786,179 and 786,180 are referred to.
