Abstract

830,453. Road sweeping machines. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1958 [March 5, 1957], No. 7200/57. Class 107 A road sweeping machine has a gutter sweeping brush at one side, the mounting of which comprises a parallelogram linkage having two vertical sides, the forward one of which carries a brush on a vertical shaft the angle of which is adjustable, the rearward vertical side being pivoted to the side of the machine about a vertical axis, and an adjustable spring-loaded device being provided to urge the brush away from the machine against the kerb. As shown, the gutter sweeping brush 12, mounted on the parallelogram linkage 15, is adjustable about a vertical axis and may be raised or lowered by the hydraulic ram 24, the linkage supporting the brush being connected to the spring-loaded member 29 by a pair of arms 26 between which is fitted the outer end of member 29 by the removable pin 27. The spring 34 is a compression spring so that the member 29 tends to be withdrawn inwardly causing the brush to move away from the side of the machine and the degree of projection of the brush from the side of the machine may be varied by passing pin 27 through the holes in the arms 26 and one of the holes 30, 31 or 32. One or more resilient, e.g. rubber, stops may be provided to limit the innermost and outermost positions of the brush 12. Specifications 830,451 and 830,452 are referred to.
