Abstract

635,413. Carpet-sweepers. WRIGHT, H. CLAYTON-. April 5, 1948, No, 9448. [Class 138 (i)] A carpet-sweeper comprises a dust pan 1, floor-wheels 4 on which the pan 1 is pivotally supported about a horizontal axis so that the front end 9 is free to fall towards the carpet, a handle mounted on the pan 1, and a rotary brush 11 mounted in front of the pan and driven by transmission belts 6 from the floor-wheels 4, The pan 1 is pivoted about the wheel spindles 5 and the handle is fitted to a U-shaped stirrup 8 pivotally mounted on the side walls 2 of the pan. Two arms 7 slotted at 10 at each end receive spindles 5 and the brush spindle. The arms are connected by a hood 14 over the brush 11 which hood extends rearwardly to provide a cover for the dust pan. Downward movement of the arms 7 is limited by pins 13 abutting the side walls 2. The pins 13 are adjusted in position on the arms 7 so as to provide for wear of the brush 11. The brush 11 is provided with pulleys 12 drivable by V-belts 6, which belts may project beyond the periphery of the wheels 4 and have driving contact with the carpet. The tension on the belts 6 retains the brush in the slots 10 of the arms 7 and the arms on the spindles 5. The handle may be telescopic and adapted' to' be fixed in different positions to vary its length.
