Abstract

976,132. Cable strippers. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Nov. 15, 1963 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43253/62. Heading H2C. A cable stripper of the kind which is rotated about the cable so that a blade makes a helical cut in the cable sheath has at least a pair of jaws between which the cable is mounted, one of which jaws is adjustable and carries the cutting blade. In the arrangement shown a V- shaped strap 7 connected to the end of crank 3 constitutes effectively two fixed jaws. The movable jaw is formed from a body 12 and carries blade 18 and may be adjusted within the limbs 9 of the V-shaped strap, being clamped in position by bolt 26 which passes through slots 11 and hole 17. The cutting blade 18 is so mounted on the body 12 that (a) the cutting face 20 (Fig. 10) is inclined to a plane normal to any plane containing the axis of the cable at an angle lying between 10 degrees and 20 degrees; (b) the cutting edge 19 lies in a plane that is parallel to the plane containing the surface 13 of the third jaw; (c) the cutting face 20 is inclined to the plane containing the cutting edge which lies normal to the plane containing the surface 13 of the third jaw by an angle lying between 5 degrees and 15 degrees; (d) the abutment face 21 is inclined to the cutting face 20 by an angle a lying between 20 degrees and 40 degrees. The angle between the inside faces of the V-shaped end of the strap is approximately 60 degrees and the front end face of the V-shaped end of the strap lies in a plane parallel to the cutting face 20 of the cutting blade. Two opposite edges of the end face 13 of body 12 are chamfered to form surfaces 14 parallel to the inside faces of the V-shaped end 8. In a further embodiment the free ends of the strap are attached to a bridging piece formed with an aperture in which slides the crank arm which is secured to the end of the body opposite to the end which forms the third jaw.
