Abstract

1,241,981. Stripping cables. WRIGHT ENGS. (BURLEY) Ltd. 29 Nov., 1968 [9 Jan., 1968; 15 March, 1968; 2 Aug., 1968], Nos. 1233/68, 12633/68 and 36949/68. Heading H2C. Apparatus for splitting sheathed cables for metal recovery purposes comprises a pair of rotary cable gripping feed elements between which a cable is passed to a stationary splitting tool which cuts or assists cutting of the sheath. As shown, toothed wheels 4, feed the cable 5 past a knife 7 which is flared away from its edge so as to open out the cut. The wheels 4 may be frusto-conical (Figs. 1, 2, not shown) and a guide plate 12 may be omitted. The knife 7 may be used in conjunction with a rapidlyreciprocating knife (16) to cut spiral armouring wires, and the split sheath may be further cut by wheels (18, 19) (Figs. 4-6, not shown).
