Abstract

1,024,349. Cable strippers. R. MANKOVITZ. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct. 1, 1962; Feb. 14, 1963], No. 38119/63. Heading H2C. A cable stripper has a pair of handles 2, 6 pivoted together, one of which carries a cutting blade 8 and the other a member 3 in which are two grooves at right angles. The cable is first put in one groove, the blade closed on to it and the tool rotated so that a circular cut is made in the insulation. Next, the cable is put in the other groove and drawn past the blade so that the severed insulation is also split longitudinally facilitating its removal. In the arrangement shown, the blade is mounted on an eccentric cam rotatable by hexagon 13. The hexagon is provided with holes any one of which may engage a dowel pin to fix a different blade position. In a further arrangement (Figs. 1-3, not shown), the blade is held by clamping screws which pass through longitudinal slots while in a still further arrangement (Figs. 5-7, not shown) the blade consists of a rotatable disc with three cutting projections of different lengths, any of which may be moved into the cutting position where it is locked because the disc is drawn by a spring into engagement with a dowel pin.
