Abstract

1,253,862. Cutting tools. R. B. NEALE. 19 Dec., 1969 [24 Dec., 1968], No. 61439/68. Heading B4B. A holder for retaining one or more blades 1 comprises, for the or each blade, two grooves 6, 6<SP>1</SP> for slidably retaining a blade and abutment means 4, 8 provided on the blade and holder respectively for restricting movement of the blade when correctly positioned. The blade has a cutting edge 2 at one end and flanges 41, 4 at the other end. The holder is formed with a ramp 14 so that when the blade is pushed through the grooves one or other of the flanges 4, 4<SP>1</SP> rides up the ramp and drops into a recess 8 forming the abutment means. In order to provide a grip on the cutting end of the blade, the holder is formed with a slot 12, thereby giving the holder a spring action. A second recess (8<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3) may be provided so that the blade can be maintained in an inoperative position if required. A slot 13 is formed in the holder in order to provide a shoulder for a lever used to lift the abutment 4 out of the recess 8 prior to withdrawal of the blade. A second blade may be located in slots formed on the opposite side of the holder.
