Abstract

1,033,614. Cable stripping devices. V. G. CARPENTER. April 16, 1963 [April 13, 1962], No. 14323/62. Heading H2C. [Also in Division B4] A cable-stripping device has a pair of notched jaws 60, 61 so pivoted that, as a cable held between them is withdrawn, the jaws are forced increasingly together to shear the insulation in their vicinity. An air-operated piston 62 closes the jaws initially. In other embodiments various types of spring arrangements are described for closing the jaws and in another a lever-operated pressure plate is provided. A plurality of sets of jaws having varying notch sizes may be mounted on a rotatable turret which has a central spring to operate all the jaws simultaneously. In all the embodiments the jaws may be supplied with cutting edges so that a cable may be cut to length before stripping off the insulation.
