974,471. Carding-engines. F. REITERER, L. WINDISCH, and J. NIFENECKER. Jan. 27, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 3321/61. Heading D1N. A flat carding machine has between a lickerin and the flats a secondary carding device consisting of an endless band provided on its outer surface with teeth. Mounted on the inner surface of the band 9 are blocks 11 that mesh with two grooved sprocket wheels 12, 13 one of which is driven through bevel gearing from the feed roller 1. A clearer roller 6 is driven from the shaft of the roller 12 and the clearer 6 and band 9 are enclosed together in a casing 14 at the end of which is a suction chamber 16 connected by a duct 18 to an extractor fan. The air set in motion by the swift 7 is said to create compression between the periphery of the swift and the impervious band 9 and the air can only escape into the suction chamber 16 carrying impurities with it.
