Abstract

973,497. Planting machines. A. VALDI. Jan. 25, 1961 [Aug. 25, 1960], No. 2866/61. Heading A1D. A machine for planting rice seedlings comprises a rotatable gripper 3 which takes hold of seedlings in a hopper 2 and drops them into a shoot 4 where they are held by a member 22 and released from the member and planted by means of a blade 29 in a reciprocating rod 28. The gripper 3 comprises an arm fixed in a drum 8 and an arm which is moved by a rod 14 provided with a roller which co-operates with a cam face. The seedlings are shaken to the bottom of the shoot by means of a plate 69 which is moved by lever 71 which co-operates with a projection on the drum 8. The member 22 is moved by a cam 26 to release the seedlings and this movement is synchronised with the movement of the rod 28. Means are provided for moving the seedlings in the hopper 2 so that they may be picked up by the gripper 3 and comprises a fork 45 which is given a lateral movement to align the seedlings. A reciprocating shutter 52 conveys the seedlings to the opening 6 of the hopper and the seedlings are pushed down towards the gripper by a cam operated pusher 59. The machine is towed by a tractor and driven from the power shaft of the tractor. A box 81 is provided to support the machine operation and to carry the rice seedlings. A plate is provided below the box and is formed with projections 84 to form furrows in the ground.
