Abstract

1440437 Seed depositor N J CLEGGETT 25 Oct 1973 [27 July 1972] 35108/72 Heading AID Apparatus for depositing single seeds at set intervals comprises a seed hopper 1 (Fig. 1) and a chute 2 having pairs of seed retaining rods 6, sliding in holes in the walls 4, 5, successively projected across and retracted from the chute 2 so as to temporarily retain and release a seed onto a lower pair of rods 6 until the seed reaches the lower open end 2a. The rods 6 are spring loaded between the walls 4 and 5 and are actuated by means of cams. In the Fig. 8 embodiment, each pair of rods 6 is connected to one of the rods 11 pivoted on a spindle 12, and the rods 11 are actuated by a series of cams 13 mounted on a common shaft 15 of a ground engaging wheel of a machine to which the apparatus is fitted, the wheel covering the seed with soil. The rods may be actuated hydraulically or pneumatically. The rods may be driven from the tractor power take-off.
