Abstract
Coloured anodised aluminium or alloys thereof, e.g. for building use, are made using as electrolyte a solution containing 1-5% of sulphosalicylic acid, 0.1-1.0% of H2SO4 or a metal sulphate, and 0.5-1.5% of maleic acid or anhydride. A current density of 1-5 A.S.D. at room temperatures is applied at up to 70 V. A layer up to 30m thick is formed. Aluminium/magnesium/silicon alloys may be treated. Specification 850,576 is referred to.
