Abstract

973,086. Carding-engines. F. REITERER, L. WINDISCH, and J. NIFENECKER. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan.21, 1960], No. 2460/61. Heading DiN. A carding machine has means for clearing the licker-in of the fibres that remain upon it after the transfer of fibres to the swift, the clearing means serving also to convey the fibres to the feed lap in advance of the feed roller. In one arrangement, the draught of air generated by the licker-in escapes through a channel 10 in casing 9 to be discharged through a perforated rotary roller 11. Fibres are cleared from the licker-in by the air-stream and transmitted to the feed roller 2 to be presented again to the licker-in in association with the lap 1. The perforated roller 11 may have a fixed internal air deflector and the casing 12 may partially cover the roller 11. With the object of separating short fibres, the casing 9 may be perforated at 22, Fig. 7, and a suction chamber 23 provided. Instead of perforating the casing 9, a gap may be left between the adjacent edges of the casing 9 and the rear plate 8, the gap communicating with a suction chamber (Fig. 8 not shown). In another embodiment, the roller 11 may be replaced by an imperforate grooved roller over which a suction hood is arranged (Fig.5 not shown).
