970,636. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. HEEMAF N.V. Oct. 9, 1962 [Nov. 13, 1961], No. 38224/62. Heading H2A. [Also in Division B1] In a dynamo-electric machine, e.g. traction motor, having on its rotor shaft 1 a suction fan 5 for producing an internal cooling air flow through inlet and outlet openings 6, 7 in its housing 3, the housing is provided or integral with at least one dust extractor comprising an air conduit 8 which is parallel with the machine axis, has its outlet opening 12 discharging to the suction side of the fan so as to by-pass the machine interior, and has in its wall near its entrance 9 a louvred opening 10 which either forms or is directly connected to the inlet opening 6. By this construction dust and water pollution of the air entering at 9 flows through the conduit 8 whilst cleaned air flows through the machine interior. The rectangular-section sheet metal conduits shown are removable for cleaning.
