Abstract

998,123. Hand drills. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. April 13, 1962 [April 14, 1961], No. 14364/62. Headings B3C and B3N. [Also in Division H2] An electric hand drill incorporates induced air cooling means for the motor which comprises a fan 22 at the drive end of the armature shaft 14. In operation the fan produces an air flow between the armature 12 and the stator 11 by drawing air through inlet slots 27, 28 at the rear end of the housing 10 near the handle 26. Air entering the inlet slots passes through an adjacently mounted air guiding disc 40 which has holes 47, 48 extending in a peripheral direction and which is close fitting in the housing 10. Guide vanes 50, 51 at the edge of the disc extend axially from the disc but are slightly inclined to motor axis so as to direct the cooling air through the clearance between the armature and the stator. The cooling air subsequently passes through a central aperture in the wall 24 of the insulating ring 25 to outlet openings 29 in the motor housing.
