Abstract
384,611. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, and YOUNGMARK, F. A., Siemens Works, Stafford. July 21, 1932, No. 20656. [Class 35.] A closed-circuit system for a machine 1, having one external fan 10 adapted to be brought into operation at will in addition to one or more fans on the rotor shaft, includes an intake chamber 9 connected to the inlet of both fans and to an exhaust chamber 7 and one or more trunk-ways 11 leading from the intercommunicating ducts of the machine and adapted to be connected either to the exhaust chamber or to the external fan outlet 12. In the form shown, the air circulated by the internal fans reaching the exhaust chamber 7 from the channels 2, 3 returns to the intake 9 through the coolers 8. When the fan 10 is operating, air from the intake 9 reaches the channels 4, 5 from the trunk-way 11 and returns to the exhaust chamber 7 through ducts 2, 3, 6, but when it is not operating the door 13 is swung back to cover the outlet 12 of the fan 10 and to enable air entering the trunk-way 11 from the ducts 4, 5 to pass into the exhaust 7. When only one internal fan is used, the external fan may be connected to the opposite end of the machine, also the duct 6 may be omitted, in which case the trunk-way 11 need not be bifurcated.
