Abstract

Tube or bar bending apparatus wherein the work is bent about a bending former by pivotably mounted bending rails, is characterized in that the former is stationary and the bending rails are operated by a horizontally disposed hydraulic cylinder which in its turn is mounted to be displaceable in the longitudinal direction and is operated by a further main hydraulic cylinder. Slide members 19 pivoted at one end to straps 16, 17, carried by a yoke 21 on an hydraulic cylinder 11 secured to the piston of a main hydraulic cylinder 8, bend a tube 22 around a fixed former 6 as the piston of the cylinder 11 and thus the yoke 21 is moved towards the former. The free ends of the members 19 bear on a plate 13 carried by a piston-rod 12 of the hydraulic cylinder 11, the rod 12 moving back into its cylinder 11 as bending proceeds. The straps 16, 17 may alternatively be attached directly on the piston of the cylinder 8. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, for bending beyond 180 degrees about a former 6a the plate 13a is curved at its ends 25 and the members 19 are supported on the straps 16, 17 by pivoted cylinders 23 which act to bend the tube beyond 180 degrees.
