A metal stock forming machine of the kind in which the stock is subjected to an operation which produces tension loads in it, of an order in the region of the elastic limit, and whilst such loads are applied to perform one or more operations on the stock by means of an auxiliary stock forming fixture carrying a suitable tool, comprises a horizontal table forming a support for a side face die and having a curvilinear track thereon and a carriage on which is mounted the auxiliary stock forming fixture, the carriage being mounted on the table so as to be movable along the track, and a motor on the carriage for moving the carriage along the track, and means to supply power to the motor at all relevant positions of the carriage and the table. Strips to be bent are secured at one end by a clamp 15 to a side face die 14 on a table 2, rotated through gearing 4, 5 by a motor 7, and is held at its other end in a tension head 16 carried by a piston-rod 12 on a swingable carriage 13. A carriage 43 supports a cylinder 46, the piston-rod 48 of which carries a wipe shoe 49 to engage the strip S on the die 14. The carriage 43 is moved round the die 14 in a track 41 on the table 2 by means of an hydraulic motor 54 on the carriage driving a pinion 56 engaging a ring gear 55 coaxial with the track 41. The wipe shoe 49 may be used to move 360 degrees around the die 14 to bring the stock into full conformance with the die. A further wipe shoe 35 is traversed by piston and cylinder means 26.
