Abstract

1390959 Feeding or removing workpieces L F BLATT 11 May 1972 22146/72 Heading B3W A carriage supporting a work gripper is reciprocated along a stationary frame by means of aligned racks on the carriage and the frame and a pinion reciprocated by a piston and cylinder unit and meshing with both racks so that it moves the carriage twice the distance that it is moved itself. A carriage 12 runs on rollers 36 on inclined tracks 35 on a frame 14, between fluid cushion or spring stops (86), 88. A pair of racks 44, (46), Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown) are symmetrically disposed on the carriage and a pair of racks 48, (50) on the frame. Pinions 52, 54, mounted on a plate 62 are associated with racks 44, 48 and a similar plate 60 carrying pinions (56) (58) for racks (46), (50) is connected to the plate 62 by a crosshead 76 which is fixed to the piston rod 78 of a double-acting fluid cylinder 80. Instead of the two pinions shown for each set of racks, one may be provided for short carriage strokes (Fig. 5, not shown), and three or more for longer strokes (Fig. 7, not shown). The frame is adjustable transversely of the feed direction by means of a clamp 16 fixing it to a rail 18.
