Abstract
967,536. Dry shavers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 11, 1963 [June 14, 1962], No. 23192/63. Heading B4B. A dry shaver having a hair-clipping unit which can be attached thereto so as to be movable between an inoperative position and an operative position, the shaver being provided with means for driving the unit, is characterized in that the unit comprises clippers housed in a detachable section of the wall of the shaver housing, the outer surface of which wall section, in at least one of the positions of the unit, is flush with the outer surface of the main part of the housing. As shown in Fig. 1, shaver housing 5 is formed with a partition 6 on which is mounted a hair-clipping unit 7 which consists of clippers 9 and a detachable section 8 of the wall of housing 5. The unit is attached to the partition by means of a U-shaped clip 7a, Fig. 3a, fixed to the wall section 8 and having limbs 10 provided with studs 11 which are inserted in grooves 12, Fig. 2, in the partition so as to drop into lower recesses 13. The unit is now in its inoperative position in which the outer surface of the wall section 8 is flush with the outer surface of the main part of the housing 5. The unit is brought into its operative position by sliding it up the partition until the studs engage in upper recesses 13. The clippers consist of a blade 14 fixed to the wall section 8 and a blade 15 which is oscillatable about a pin 16 by means of a driving-pin 18 projecting through the partition and actuated by the shaver driving means 3 through an eccentric which is engaged by a fork 4a fixed on a shaft 4. If desired, the unit may be replaced by a wall section having a spring clip. In a modification, Fig. 5, the unit is attached to the partition by means of a rotatable pin 20 fixed to the wall section 8, the head 21 of the pin engaging behind a spring-loaded member 22 slidably mounted in the partition. To prevent the pin from moving during use, two projections 25 are provided on the partition for co-operation with the sides of the wall section 8. By sliding the unit up the partition against the action of spring 23, the section 8 is moved clear of the projections and at the same time, the reciprocable blade of the clippers is disengaged from its drive. The unit can then be turned through 180 degrees after which it is moved back down the partition so that the parts of the hair-clipping blades which project outside the wall section 8 enter a recess 29 in a part 30 of the housing 5. A separate wall section may replace the hairclipping unit.
