Abstract

1,128,187. Stamping. AMP Inc. 20 Feb., 1967 [7 March, 1966], No. 7946/67. Heading B3Q. A crimping &c. tool comprises a body 1 having spaced plates 8 between which an actuator 5 reciprocates along a selected path, a head 9 extending between the plates and guiding a ram 14, and interengaging members 17, 18, 6, 16 on the head and body and on the ram and actuator releasably securing the head to the body with the actuator and ram reciprocable along the path, the members 17, 18, 6, 16 being disengageable by moving the head relatively to the body transversely to the path of reciprocation, Fig. 2 (not shown). The tool may be bench-mounted and hand-operated but, as shown, it is a hand-held tool driven by an electromotor. Pins 6, 16 engage recesses 16, 18 in the head and ram, the pin 18 being fixed to the plates 8 while pin 6 is movable along slots 7 by the actuator 5. Pressed by a spring 23 against the top of the head 10 is a pivoted latch 21 having a rib 20 engaging a recess 19 in the head. If the ram is jammed, the latch may be jacked away from the head, permitting removal of the head, by a screw 24 in the latch and bearing in the recess.
