Abstract

967,509. Transformers and inductors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 19, 1962 [Oct. 19. 1961], No. 37560/61. Heading H1T. A hollow cylindrical core structure closed at both ends has two parts each having a plate portion 3, 6 and at least two wall portions 4, 13, the latter fitting together to form the curved surface of the cylinder, and from one of the ends 3, 6 a core member 8 extends along the axis of cylinder and on assembly touches the opposite end or leaves a small air gap. An axial hole (10, 9) is provided in each part, and these align on assembly to carry a bolt for fixing the structure together and to a base board. At least one of the wall portions 4 may be shortened to permit egress of the coil ends between part 4 and part 6. The structure may be of ferrite, and acts as an electromagnetic shield as well as forming a magnetic circuit. The coil may be wound on the former 11, whose top flange 11a is less in diameter than the distance between walls 7, or may be omitted, or it may be wound on the member 8 or on an insulating sleeve on member 8, the winding being carried out in situ in an electrical apparatus as described in Specification 967,510.
