Abstract
967,377. Cable stripping devices. L. B. (PLASTICS) Ltd. July 9, 1963 [July 11, 1962], No. 26588/62. Heading H2C. [Also in Division F2] A device for stripping thermoplastic insulation from an electric cable comprises a chamber in which the insulation is softened by heating and knife blades between which the cable is drawn after softening to strip the insulation. In Fig. 1, the cable is passed between knife blades 18, the upper one of which is spring biased towards the cable and is inserted to an extent limited by a stop 15, into the heating chamber 11 whose temperature may be adjusted by control 14. When the insulation has softened, the cable is pulled from the chamber and as it is withdrawn it engages the upper knife blade which pivots towards the lower pivotally fixed blade so that their semi-circular cutting edges bite into the insulation and strip it. The knife assembly is mounted on a slidable bracket 19 so that it moves near the chamber when the insulation is being heated and away from it during stripping to allow the stripped insulation to be deposited through a hole in the base-plate 10.
