555,448. Stripping electric cables. PRIMMETT, F. V., and HINE, R. L. Oct. 6, 1942, No. 895. [Class 36] In stripping the coverings from the ends of electric conductors, the conductor c is placed in a groove b in a block of metal a screwed to a bench, and a knife j with an inclined cutting edge is pressed by a lever g so as to cut through the insulator to an extent which is controlled by a screw stop o which contacts with a depressible spring plunger m adapted to return the parts to normal position when pressure is released from the lever g after the required length of conductor has been pulled past the cutter j. This length is controlled by an adjustable stop mounted on a gauge at right angles to the block a. The apparatus may be arranged to deal with two or more conductors at a time in which case the knives may be independently spring-mounted in a bar which is moved to and from the block a. Pressure may be applied to the block a instead of to the knife-carrier, and the lever g may be formed with an aperture p for connection by a wire to a treadle.
