Abstract

967,126. Combustion chambers for I.C. engines. J. P. HINDLEY. (Hupp Corporation). Dec. 6, 1962, No. 46187/62. Heading F1B. A combustion chamber 13 formed in a piston head has lip portions 20, overhanging the chamber side wall, separated by recess portions 21 and at least one fuel jet 27 is directed beneath each lip 20. The air entering the combustion chamber is deflected upwards by the sloping walls 16, 18, and deflected inwardly by the lips 20, part of the air entraining the fuel mist around the jet case and being deflected sideways towards the recesses 21 where ignition is initiated.
