Abstract

The tendency of wool or material consisting of or containing wool to felt is reduced by treating it in a single stage with a mixed solution having a pH of 4-10 and containing either an organic per-acid of the formula R CO. O. OH in which R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, e.g. peracetic acid or permanosulphuric acid or perdisulphuric acid or an alkali metal salt of the persulphuric and chlorine or bromine or the hypohalite of an alkali or alkaline earth metal with or without an anionic wetting agent. The excess halogen may subsequently be removed by treatment of the wool or wool-containing material with sodiumbisulphite.
