Abstract

964,678. Harness. J. MARTIN. July 10, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 27738/62. Heading A3V. An airman's harness comprises a hip strap to which is secured a pair of crutch straps which pass through end loops on the hip strap and terminate at a first part of a two part buckle, a pair of shoulder straps which extend from the hip strap and terminate at the second buckle part, one of the buckle parts carries a friction device for co-operation with a lowering line one end of which is adapted to be attached to the airman's parachute. The harness comprises a hip strap 1 with end loops. Crutch straps 2, 3 pass through the loops and extend from the hip strap to a slot in a buckle part 4. Shoulder straps 5, 6 extend from the hip strap through the other buckle part 7. A lowering line 15 extends from a pouch at the back of the airman, through a friction grip on the buckle to a clip 16 which is attached to the parachute harness. To enable the harness to be easily worn and adjusted the hip strap and a shoulder strap have two part releasable buckles 10, 11 and 12, and the crutch strap 3, has an adjustable buckle 13. The friction device comprises a framework with a series of bars or rollers over which the lowering line passes.
