661,235. Equipment for carrying weights on the person. UTTERSTROM, S. L. March 18, 1949 [May 24, 1948; Dec. 9, 1948], Nos. 7469 / 49 and 7470/49. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 8, 1949.] Class 141. [Also in Group XVII] In a rack-knapsack having a steel supporting frame 1 with two U-shaped brackets 3 which rest on the shoulders. of the carrying person, the frame has a transverse supporting member 7 in the form of a curved piece of sheet material which rests on the shoulder blades. Waist-supporting members 5 are attached to side members 4 of the frame which also has attached a supporting member 6 for the small of the back. The knapsack 10 rests on a frame 12 projecting from the frame 1 and is attached by a strap 9 passing through holes in the support 7 and by retaining straps 11. Carrier straps 14 attached to the frame pass between the ends of the brackets 3 and guide members 22 which can be displaced longitudinally to allow for the " thickness " of the shoulders of the carrying person, and the ends of the straps 14 are inserted in buckles on the free ends of strap 16 attached to side member 4. The brackets 3 have shoulder pads 17 and a waist strap 24 is provided. In a modification the brackets 3 are pivotally mounted and are laterally displaceable to allow adjustment for width of shoulders.
