Means for attaching a pipe to a plain bore passage 20 comprises a shaft 6, provided with means, e.g. a handle 9, whereby the shaft may be rotated, an expandible securement member pivotally connected to a sleeve 12, in abutting engagement with the shaft but not rotated on operative rotation of the shaft, and to a subshaft 11 in screw-threaded engagement with the shaft 6. When the latter is rotated relative to the sub-shaft there is relative movement therebetween which causes the expandible securement member to enter into or be withdrawn from, depending on the direction of relative rotation, securing engagement with the internal surface of the passage 20. As shown, shoes 15 having teeth 20, or knurled surfaces, are pivotally mounted on the slidable sleeve 12 and the sub-shaft 11; alternatively, the securement member consists of an expandible ring. A spigot ring 23 locates the elbow 1 to which a pipe is secured and in communication with the passage 20, and a rotatable member 25 clamps the elbow 1 to the plate 21. A screwthreaded boss 27 for an eyebolt is provided and to facilitate lifting of the coupling.
