Abstract

Granulated phosphorus and potassium fertilizers which contain water-soluble phosphate as well as potassium metaphosphate, are obtained by mixing phosphoric acid containing at least 50% by weight of P2O5 with potassium chloride to obtain a mixture with a P2O5 : K2O molar ratio of 0.9 to 0.3, and spraying the mixture through a flame at 1,000 to 1,500 DEG C. on to a bed of granules of previously prepared fertilizer, the bed of granules being kept in a rotatory motion at 260 DEG to 340 DEG C. and constaining 0.1 to 0.6 part by weight of iron ball per part by weight of granules. The bed may be in an externally-heated rotary drum in which is a spray for the mixture and a jet of flame. The iron balls which may have diameters about ten times that of the granules, serve to break up agglomerates of granules and to prevent caking on the inside wall of the drum.
