Abstract

Granular fertilizers with a reduced tendency to cake and set on storage are produced by providing the granules with a surface coating of not less than 0,001 per cent by weight of a water-soluble salt of 2-aminonaphthalene-3 : 6 - disulphonic acid p and/or of the o -methane sulphonate of that acid. The coating substance may be applied within the range 0,001 to 0,5 per cent by weight of the fertilizer and is conveniently incorporated using an aqueous solution of the substance either prior to granulation or subsequent to the formation of granules. Fertilizers thus treated may comprise one or more of the following:-superphosphate; triple superphosphate; mono- and di-ammonium phosphate; ammonium or potassium chloride; ammonium nitrate; ammonium sulphate; potassium calcium sulphate; ammonium calcium sulphate; potassium sulphate; urea; potassium nitrate; potassium dihydrogen phosphate; dipotassium hydrogen phosphate; potassium metaphosphate.
