Abstract

A solid fertilizer containing as one of its components ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulphate nitrate also contains 2% to 20% by weight of magnesium chloride based on the weight of nitrate, to reduce the caking tendency. The amount of magnesium salt may be 0.5% to 6% based on the total weight of the fertilizer. The magnesium chloride may be mixed as a powder with the ingredients or dissolved in the water used to prepare granules. In examples fertilizers contain ammonium nitrate, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, ammonium sulphate, single superphosphate and monoammonium phosphate; other materials mentioned are potassium nitrate, carnallite, urea, triple superphosphate and potassium phosphate.
