Abstract
A process for the production of fertilizer material comprises adding to phosphate rock a mixture of sulphuric and phosphoric acids, followed by treating with nitric acid and the product being neutralised. Suitable acids are the commercially available concentrated acids, e.g. 50-90% sulphuric, 50-70% phosphoric and 40-60% nitric acid and although the proportions used may vary over a large range, the preferred amounts per mole P2O5 in the rock are 1.4 to 3.5 moles sulphuric acid, 1 to 3 moles phosphoric acid and 1.5 to 10 moles nitric acid. The neutralizing agent is preferably ammonia, but may be potassium hydroxide or carbonate, and may be in such proportion as to leave substantially the whole of the phosphate water-soluble, (e.g. as monocalcium phosphate) or be sufficient to convert part to the citrate-soluble state (e.g. as dicalcium phosphate). Other plant food materials, e.g. ammonium sulphate, ammonium nitrate or potassium chloride may be added to the final product which may also be granulated.ALSO:A process for the production of fertilizer material comprises adding to phosphate rock a mixture of sulphuric and phosphoric acids, followed by treating with nitric acid and the product being neutralised.
