Abstract

963,111. Sifting apparatus. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Feb. 20, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8255/62. Heading B2H. A sifting apparatus for powdered or granular material comprises a screen 16 mounted within a pressure-scaled casing 5 and pressure reducing means, such as a cyclone 2, on the input side for reducing the pressure of the conveying air to below the conveying system pressure but above atmospheric. An air conveying system at 10 1b/in<SP>2</SP> may be reduced to 3 lb/in<SP>2</SP> in the casing 5. The casing is supported in bearings 6, 7 and given a gyratory motion by eccentric drive means 8. The screen 16 is arranged in the form of a drawer which can be periodically withdrawn from the casing 5 to remove tailings. Material fed into the cyclone is discharged through a flexible duct 4 and over a spreader on to the screen while the main portion of the conveying air is led out through a pipe 3 to a reclaim unit; sifted material is directed through a flexible duct 9 and air-lock discharge device 11 into an air conveyer 12.
