929,355. Separating solid materials; screening apparatus. ETABLISSEMENTS BRAUD. Jan. 23, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2565/61. Class 117. Corn cleaning apparatus includes a cylindrical casing 3 into which the corn is fed from a hopper 1 and through which it is passed by a high-speed rotary screw conveyer 4; the conveyer is offset from the casing axis and the corn is thrown against the casing wall, and is acted upon by a stream of air fed longitudinally through the casing in opposition to the direction of feed. A fan 10 produces the stream, and the lighter waste particles are carried away through a shaft 11, the height of which is such that any heavy particles will fall back from the shaft to the casing. A part 6 of the casing has a roughened surface, and parts 7 and 8 are perforated and associated with collecting means 12, 13. The part 7 has smaller perforations than the part 8. A further collecting means 14 is located at the outlet end of the casing.
