Abstract

1,241,774. Sieving apparatus. H E N R Y SIMON Ltd. 24 March, 1970 [28 May, 1969], No. 27097/69. Heading B2H. A sieving apparatus comprises a sieve 18, means 14, 11a, 11 for delivering stock to the sieve 18, means 12, 12a, 23 and 13, 13a, 22 for conveying the "overtails" and "throughs" respectively separately from the screen, means 28 for forcing a current of air through the sieve co-currently with the "throughs", and means 24, 25 for preventing the air current from escaping respectively with the "throughs" and "overtails". The sieve 18 is disposed in a chamber 10 and forms the upper surface of a subsidiary chamber 19 which is sealed from the interior of the chamber by a wall 20. Stock, e.g. flour, is fed through a hopper 14, an airlock 16, a foraminous, flexible canvas sleeve 17 and a cuff 11a and falls on to the screen. Sieving is promoted by imparting a gyratory movement to the chamber 10. The throughs pass through the screen and fall on a tray 19 and are thence directed towards a port 13 for exit via a cuff 13a, a flexible sleeve 26 and a duct 22 which incorporates a rotary airlock 24. A duct 28 communicating with the duct 22 is connected to an exhaust system whereby air is drawn through the foraminous sleeve 17 into the chamber 10 and passes with the "throughs" through the screen 18. The "overtails" fall off the screen 18 towards a port 12 and exit through a cuff 12a, a flexible sleeve 27 and a duct 23, the latter being provided with a rotary air lock 25.
