Abstract
An insulating composition comprises 30 to 50 parts butyl rubber, 15 to 35 parts of polyisobutylene, 12 to 24 parts of chlorinated hydrocarbon resin (e.g. chlorinated polyphenyl or chlorinated polyethylene), 12 to 24 parts of a copolymer of 80 to 90% styrene and 10 to 20% butadiene and optionally up to 70 parts of an inert filler. The filler may be silica or clay, and other optional ingredients are reinforcers such as dinitrosobenzene, preservatives, extenders, pigments and tackifying agents, e.g. ester gum, rosin, polyterpene resins, butadiene/styrene rubber, zinc oxide and carbon black. The compositions find application as insulating tape for electric cables.ALSO:An insulating tape is obtained by impregnating cotton fabric with a composition comprising butyl rubber, polyisobutylene, chlorinated hydrocarbon resin, a styrene/butadiene copolymer and silica.
