Abstract

815,823. Pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 13, 1956 [Feb. 21, 1955], No. 4434/56. Class 140. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape having good resistance to high temperature and to stress cracking in the presence of chemical agents, comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive applied to a backing of polyethylene irradiated with high energy electrons. The polyethylene backing may be irradiated as described in Specification 773,529, [Group IV (a)]. The pressure-sensitive adhesive may comprise an alkyd resin-elastomer reaction product of a polyhydric oil, e.g. castor oil, and a polycarboxylic acid, e.g. citric acid or maleic anhydride, in combination with a tackifler resin containing an abietate radical, e.g. rosin; a rubber containing composition, e.g. smoke sheet, latex crepe rubber or light reclaimed rubber; or an organopolysiloxane which may be prepared according to Specification 803,262. Specification 784,037, [Group IV (a)], also is referred to.
