Abstract

A thermoplastic material for insulating electric cables either by taping or extrusion is obtained by mixing p.v.c. or rubber with a synthetic organic contact insecticide such as dieldrin. The dieldrin is mixed with an equal amount of inert filler as a fine dust and a 1% solution is made up in di-octyl phthalate which is then mixed in the ratio 1:4 with p.v.c. Alternatively the dieldrin filler mixture may be mixed to a paste with mineral oil before being added to the di-octyl phthalate. For mixing with rubber 2% by weight of the dust mixture is mixed with 98% of french chalk and 1 part of the resultant mixture is incorporated in about 8 parts of a rubber mix.
