553,569. Electric insulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1941, No. 15007. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1940. [Class 36] The di-electric strength of a gaseous insulating material, such as air, N, H or Co 2 , is improved by adding thereto up to about 5 per cent of dichlorodifluoromethane. The mixture may be used at pressure greater or less than atmospheric. To insulate a cable, switch or other electrical apparatus with a mixture of nitrogen and dichlorodifluoromethane, the cable &c. may be washed out with pure nitrogen which is then replaced by the mixture or has dichloroedifluoromethane alone injected therein. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states also that dichlorodifluoromethane may be used alone, or more than 5 per cent thereof may be mixed with other gases. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
