Abstract

A thermoplastic sealing compound comprising polyethylene wax and an approximately equal quantity by weight of polymerized wood rosin has a low degree of shrinkage and may be used in potted assemblies of electrical components such as rectifiers. Polyethylene of melting point 103-105 DEG C., and molecular weight 3 500 is melted and wood rosin polymerized with sulphuric acid containing not less than 30% dimeric abietic acid and with an acid value of not less than 140 added gradually with stirring.
