Abstract

The mechanical properties of PVC are improved by the homogeneous incorporation therein at an elevated temperature of at least one polyamide resin derived from a saturated o -amino acid, e.g. 11-amino-undecanoic acid. Preferred polyamides have a softening temperature not exceeding 185 DEG C. The resin may be mixed with the PVC as a powdered resin or moulding powder on a heated roller mill. For reasons of compatability and economy only a limited quantity of polyamide will normally be added to the PVC e.g. not more than 20% weight in the case of the polyamide derived from 11-amino undecanoic acid. In an example a composition comprises by weight 90 parts PVC; 10 parts of a polyamide derived from 11-amino-undecanoic acid; 3 parts lead stearate, and 0,5 parts calcium stearate.
