Abstract

Polyamides from normal mixtures of ingredients to which has been added a small proportion of a mixture of bis-hexamethylenetriamine or amide-forming derivative thereof with an equivalent quantity of dicarboxylic acid are particularly useful for shaping by extension or injection moulding. The proportion of added triamine is preferably 0.3-3.18 molar per cent of total diamine and aminocarboxylic acid. A mono-functional amide-forming reagent, e.g. acetic acid, may be included as described in Specification 495,790, the greater the amount added, the greater the proportion of triamine used. A small proportion of delustrant or pigment, e.g. TiO2 may also be added at any stage of the process. Examples describe the function of polyamides, e.g. from hexamethylene diammonium sebacate mixed with a small quantity of the neutral salt from bis-hexamethylenetriamine and adipic acid. Extrusion tests on the products are described, the results (as well as the physical properties of films from the products) being compared with those obtained from normal polyamides.
