Abstract

Fibre-forming interpolyamides of improved dyeing properties are obtained by heating a polyamide - forming composition comprising 75-95 parts by weight of a mixture of equimolecular proportions of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid or amide-forming derivatives or a salt thereof and 5-25 parts by weight of a mixture of equimolecular proportions of a diamine and a dicarboxylic acid, or amide forming derivatives, either or both of which contain at least one oxygen atom in the chain separating the amide-forming groups, and continuing the heating until a fibre-forming product is obtained. Diamines having at least two oxygen atoms in the chain are specially useful. Specified diamines and amide-forming derivatives are: triglycoldiamine, tetraglycoldiamine, bisaminopropoxyhexane, 3.7-dioxa-1.9 - nonanediamine, 3.8 - dioxa - 1.10 - decane - diamine, 3.9 - dioxa - 1.11 - hendecanediamine, 3.10-dioxa-1.12-dodecanediamine, 3.11-dioxa-1.13 - tridecanediamine, 4.7.10 - trioxa - 1.13 - tri - decanediamine, 3.12 - dioxa - 1.14 - tetradecane - diamine, 3.13- dioxa - 1.15 - pentadecanediamine, 4.7 - dioxa - 1.10 - decanediamine, 5.8 - dioxa - 1.12 - dodecanediamine, 4.8 - dioxa - 1.11 - hendecane - diamine, 5.9 - dioxa - 1.13 - tridecanediamine, diphenylolpropane - di - beta - aminoethyl ether and 1.4-dihydroxybenzene-di-beta-aminoethyl ether. In examples, interpolyamides are prepared from mixtures of (I) and (II) hexamethylenediammonium adipate and triglycoldiammonium adipate; (III) hexamethylenediammonium adipate and the salt derived from hexamethylene diamine and diglycollic acid. The products show enhanced receptitity for acid, direct and vat dyes and level dyeing properties. Other polyamides, resins, cellulosic materials, pigments, delusterants, plasticizers, antioxidants, &c., may also be used. Specifications 461,236, 461,237, 487,734, 495,790 and 23690/39, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, are referred to.
