961,804. Flashbulbs. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1963 [Jan. 23, 1962], No. 2831/63. Heading G2L. In a flash lamp comprising a glass bulb having two lead-in wires passing through the bulb wall and containing a combustion-accelerating gas filling at a pressure not below atmospheric pressure and a mass of finely shredded foil of a readily combustible lightproducing material selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, tantalum and their base alloys, instead of a filament coated with an igniting paste connected to the inner ends of the lead-in wires as an igniting element, there is used a filament consisting of any of the above specified combustible light-producing materials. As described the bulb has an internal volume of 1. 2 c.c and contains 21 mg. of shredded zirconium foil of cross-section 28Á x 55Á and an oxygen filling at a pressure of 3500 mm. Hg., while the igniting filament is of zirconium with a cross-sectional area of 0. 0004 sq. mm. A noble gas may be admixed with the oxygen. Specification 806,101 is referred to.
