Abstract
A nickel based alloy suitable for use in aircraft engines comprises:- .Cr.15-25% .Nb.1.5-5.0% preferably 2-5% .Al.2-4.5% preferably 2.75-4.5% .Mn.0.3-2.0% .C.0.01-0.15% .Si.up to 0.5% the balance being nickel. The following elements may also be present, the maximum allowable amounts being indicated: .Mo.15% .W.5% .Ti.1% .V.2% .Co.20% .B.0.01% In the examples the alloys are heat treated by heating at 1080 DEG C. for 8 hours, air cooling, heating at 700 DEG C. for 16 hours and air cooling to room temperature.
