Abstract

961,038. Lighters using liquefied gas. NATIONALE S.A. Aug. 31, 1960 [Sept. 8, 1959], No. 30028/60. Addition to 784,357. Heading F4F. A valve for filling the reservoir of a lighter with liquefied gas comprises a movable member 11 adapted to be moved against the action of a spring 16 by the connecting piece 3 of the filling vessel and having an axial bore 20 leading to a radial bore 21 which is closed by a cylindrical sealing member 9 disposed in a socket in the body of the lighter. The movable member also has a shoulder 13 pressed against the end of the sealing member 9 and controlling the flow of exhaust gas to passages 18, 19 in the movable member. The shoulder 13 moves away from the sealing member before the radial bore 21 is uncovered. The upper end of the movable member has a recess in which is located a member 58 which ensures fluid tightness between the connecting piece 3 of the filling vessel and the axial bore 20. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the movable member slides with clearance in a bore in the valve body and has a head carrying a sealing member which seats against the lower end of the bore. The fuel flows through an axial passage and a radial passage in the movable member and gas is exhausted through the clearance between the movable member and the bore in the body. The connecting piece of the filling vessel is applied against a conical end of the movable member.
