Abstract

A bearing alloy of lead and indium is formed by co-depositing these metals as an alloy from a solution containing them together with an alkali metal cyanide, preferably KCN, sufficient to complex the indium present, and also containing at least 1 g. per litre of a nitrate ion, e.g. as Pb(NO3)2 or as added NaNo3. Optional additions include KF, dextrose, glue, gelatin and ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid, and the bath should have a pH value from 9 to 12. Preferably a soluble metal anode is used alternately with an insoluble anode, in the plating bath. A suitable backing material of strip metal is degreased after machining and then plated bringing the semi-finished bearing up to the required size. Specification 799,280 is referred to.
