In a typewriter or tabulator having a set of superposed record webs 20, Fig. 1, with marginal feed holes, which is interleaved with one or more webs of duplicating material 21 without such feed holes (Fig. 3, not shown) whereby the duplicating webs are released at an average rate considerably less than that at which the record webs are fed to the platen 17 by pin wheels 12 and 11 disposed below and above guide plates 15, 16 and 18 disposed on the infeed side of the platen, the record webs are characterized in that at least one of the record webs 20 has at intervals along the edges partially cut out tabs 51, Fig. 2, which pass through aligned holes 50 of another record web of the set to enhance registration of the webs and prevent their bunching or billowing as they pass around the platen. In operation the set of record webs and duplicating webs is assembled over rollers 24 and then advanced by the lower pin wheel 12, Fig. 2, between the flat guide plates 15, 16 whereby a pin 34 engages one of the holes 50 having partially severed tabs 51 to push the corresponding tabs upwardly through the holes in the upper webs. As the webs advance the upstanding tabs are folded over by ends 54 of pin wheel slots in the plate 16. The tabs may be provided either in one web only or in both the upper and lower webs as shown in Fig. 2, when the tabs are alternately displaced upwardly and downwardly as at "C" and " D," respectively.
