Abstract

1,049,223. Record web assemblies. G. W. GIFFORD. Feb. 18, 1965 [April 13, 1964], No. 15073/64. Heading B6A and B6F. A group of record webs which are fed at high speed through a computer printer are held together in alignment by tongues punched from the webs and shaped to interlock, the tongues being displaced somewhat from the respective webs and extending through the apertures vacated by tongues of adjacent webs being out of alignment with each other. The group of webs is led into an aperture forming machine by pin-feed tapes 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), and at a roller 14 is turned backwardly about 135 degrees to a roller 16 where the webs are turned a further 360 degrees. Thence the webs pass through a pair of punch and die rollers 23, 24 and by means of rollers 17, 18, 19 and 20 are turned back until they finally emerge on the same path as originally. The extra distance travelled by the outer webs as they are turned by the rollers 14, 16, causes the webs to come out of alignment so the apertures can be punched. The reverse turning caused by rollers 17, 18, 19 and 20 realigns the webs but with the apertures displaced. The amount of displacement can be adjusted, e.g. for various numbers or thickness of webs, by swivelling the carrier 27 supporting the punch and die rollers 23, 24 and a guide roller 29. There may be a pair of punch and die rollers, transversely adjustable, for perforating the other margin.
